Heritage
Trifon Podryabinnikov
1887–1974 · porcelain and faience artist
My great-grandfather worked with everyday objects, drawing and colour. What matters to me is the connection between artistic exploration and experience that can be described and passed on.
From painting to faience
Born in Zhytomyr, he studied in the studios of Konstantin Yuon and Ilya Mashkov in 1916–1917, according to the museum biography. He worked at several ceramics factories and at the Konakovo faience works in 1936–1948.
He developed and practised underglaze painting with salt solutions, documenting his experience in a book published in 1954. The account of recovering a lost technique remains family memory; the sources document development and practice.
