Otto (Otton) Bem
1892 or 1893 — 14 June 1938 · education administrator
My great-grandfather and Alfred Bem's brother worked in education. Their lives followed different political and cultural paths; our family remembers them together.
From a library to education administration
Regional historical accounts describe his work as a librarian in Uni after exile to Vyatka province, followed by work in public education. In 1922 he became head of Glavsotsvos at the People's Commissariat for Education. He later worked in higher-education administration, at the Second Moscow University and in educational publishing.

Repression and records
He was arrested in December 1937, sentenced by the Military Collegium and executed on 14 June 1938. He was rehabilitated in 1956.
