Alfred Alekseyevich Kolakovsky

1906–1997 · botanist and palaeobotanist

My great-grandfather’s cousin studied living and fossil plants. Much of his scientific work concerned the Caucasus and Abkhazia: their flora, plant communities and the history of plant life.

Plant life and its history

His work covers descriptions of plants and the development of plant landscapes. It includes Flora of Abkhazia, The Plant Life of Colchis and The Plant Landscapes of Abkhazia and the History of Their Development. Kolakovsky also contributed to a book about the Pitsunda–Myussera Nature Reserve.

His author abbreviation in the International Plant Names Index (IPNI) is Kolak. It accompanies botanical names that he published.
