Your board gets a member who tells measurable from unmeasurable — and is not fooled by a number.
An independent director; chair of the boards of Synterra Media and Inform, 2022-2025.
The board profile in PDF is being prepared for publication.
Management brings a metric instead of an argument
The chart goes up, the commentary is confident, the table has no questions. What measured that number, and what it hides, nobody asks: whoever asks risks being the only one who did not follow.
A project is judged by its presentation, not by how it is built
The room discusses how the project is shown. How it is assembled, where its load-bearing places are and what happens if one of them is pulled out - that is not on the slides.
A decision is due while the data does not exist
The most expensive case: a number gets named anyway, because sitting there without one is awkward. The board then votes for a calculation that never happened.
The question about data quality
A metric brought by management is checked against what measured it and what it hides. After that question the team counts rather than defends.
Structure, not presentation
A project is judged by how it is assembled and where its load-bearing places are, not by how well it is shown.
Deciding without data
When the data does not really exist, that is said out loud and the decision is made openly — instead of pretending a number is there.
